Thought of the Day

I don't believe in morality, but I believe in ethical conduct as set out by His Holiness the Dalai Lama: "Ethical conduct = a way of behaving that respects others’ right to be happy".

Active week & passive weekend OR vice versa?

Someone (can't remember who) made me notice some time ago that a sign of getting old(-er) is when you get into the habit of having an active week and a lazy and homey weekend. Well, this happens to me these days. See today: I started my new job, which is strange (but brilliant!): I am completely autonomous and indipendent. So, I decided to start my working day with the most appealing side of it: NPD (New Product Development). I revised a publishing proposal which we recently received and that I have to pursue and implement. Then, I had yoga at lunch time and yoga after work. I walked to and back the (yoga) centre and enjoyed the warm Spring air at times interrupted by a chilly wind. In the evening I met Lofty and together we went to do some shopping. We are now back: he is in the kitchen, as usual, while I am here noseying around... I am about to order an electric sweeper off the internet. Tomorrow morning I am going swimming with Joe and after work I have drinks with my new colleagues. A very monotone weekend followed by a rather diverse start of the week! Am I getting old? Or simply absorbed into my daily routine? I will get bored of it at some point and in need of feeling more useful for the society, but for the time being I am happy as I am: selfishly useful. Is your weekend more active than your week? Or vice versa?

I think that comment is wrong (not salome, but the original one. You will certainly do more in the week as you realise that time is precious, but likewise you'll do more at the weekend, swapping hangovers and Hollyoaks for househunting and DIY (home improvement for some). So Salome is right, it'll never stop, but unless that's because you have children you have a say in this matter and either way it's because you are embracing the more things you are capable of doing.
